I think the online learning via CodeAcademy is useful for me to learn something about pythons which I haven’t known before, although I am not interested in it. Therefore, the MOOCs are practical for those people whom are not able to go to colleges. Just like the God father of online learning, Sebastian Thrun says “I’d aspired to give people a profound education – to teach them something substantial.”

But, the point is so idealism that ignores the fact. The only reason for people whom learn online courses is for employment. A traditional education is not satisfied with their will and the people have no patience to complete the course. Most of them can easily drop the courses, because the policies of online learning are not as strict as that of universities. And, in order to get a job quickly, they only need the short courses of technology to improve their abilities in a short term. Just like Sebastian Thrun says “we’re not doing anything as rich and powerful as what a traditional liberal-arts education would offer you. At the end of the day, the true value proposition of education is employment.”

Aaron Swartz

Aaron Swartz was famous of his computer programming in his life. Also, he was an Internet activist that “sought to combat Internet copyright violations.” Then, on July 11, 2011, he was arrested by MIT police because of the wire fraud. And, he was died through hanging himself in his apartment on January 11,2013, in NYC.[1]

I think he has ever prevented the passage of SOPA, and his action was made the government pay more attention to him.Although he just thought to share more things and more useful experiences for the people on the internet, he should take responsibility for his computer fraud. He broke some rules of U.S. intellectual property law, because, without the permission of MIT, he downloaded a lot of academic journal articles which was kept unlocked, and share them in the public library. [2]The rules of the IP law was so strict to those people that infringe copyright. Most of people want to freely download all the documents from the internet. Before we do this we should consider the feelings of the owners of copyright.

In narrow sense, all of the personal information such as ID card or social security number are considered private. No one has the power to share your information without your permission. For corporation or government, the secrets of the business or the country are always considered private. No individuals or social media can share the privacy in public.

In broad sense, what I said above is not absolutely correct. Most often, for the public safety, the government system must share the personal information to the bank or the employer. It’s impossible to keep all of your data definitely private. If you insist to do it, you are not allowed to do anything in public. Therefore, no matter the information is absolutely given away freely or not, there is also a big problem with either corporation or government reviewing published information. The social order will be in havoc. Actually, keeping private or sharing in public are just comparative terms. Keeping private is based on the actual situation.

Social Media vs. Traditional Media, Twitter vs. Instagram

No matter Social or Traditional Media, they are just the tools for transmitting information. Nowadays, more social media work through by internet. The news are very easier to spread all over the world than before. Not only that, the astronauts can receive the news in the space. The power of traditional media are no longer strong, but they still exit. Although the status of the modern social media are increasingly important, some of them will transmit the news without any validation. You cannot judge whether the news are real or not. But in the traditional media, such as newspaper, the editors must make sure the events should be really happened, otherwise, they will probably apologize publicly or get punished because of their negligence.

Twitter is the online service which enables people to share things happened with their friends. The important functions are texting messages without any payment and are keeping the materials in private. Instagram is the online service that enables people to share pictures and videos in their daily life. Twitter is much easier to make friends than Instagram. You can immediately get the local or the international news from your friends. You can imagine that there will be less communications between people in the real world in years to come, because all of them will do it in a virtual world. How is the civilization going to be? Some people are worried about that computers would eventually rule the people on the earth in the future.

The uprising

The people in Thailand oppose the government policies and want to remove the prime minister. The people in Ukraine proceed a demonstration outside the government in order to restore the constitution of 2004.

The media actually influences these uprising, just like the reports on “Arab Springs” which I have seen last year. I think no matter the domestic or foreign media, only for boosting ratings or hit ratings , they always choose the events which are able to draw eyes of the audiences. These always influence the point of view which they report or post will not be the whole truth. The citizens who believe the news will continuously join the social movements that lead to be conflict escalating.
